HIGHLIGHTS
• More than 6,500 fans attended the Gold Coast SUNS v Brisbane Lions NAB Challenge match, broadcast nationally on Foxtel
• Overall participation increased by 19.7% on 2013. School programs, AFL9s and Female participation showed the most growth
• Tony Burke was appointed AFL Townsville Football Operations Manager in June - a significant step forward for the region
• An U6 competition was introduced. All of the participants completed their training in Auskick and were ready to take on the world
• The Townsville Youth Girls team participated in the state championships as a standalone team for the first time, finishing with two wins and three losses
• Delma Gisu, Pamai Dau and Aggie Harry were selected in the State Youth Girls Academy following strong performances at the Kickstart and Youth Girls State Championships
• The Women’s competition went up another notch this year with a 12 week season that culminated in a very skillful and hard fought grand final
• Representative football was back on the calendar with the Mackay, Capricornia and Townsville tri-series featuring both men’s and women’s teams.
• Townsville coaches excelled in the representative field with Barry Gibson head coach of the NQ senior representative team, Tony Burke head coach of the U16 NQ team and Ricky Sullivan head coach of the U14 CQ team
