COLTS
Previously known as Under 18s, South-east Queensland’s colts competition underwent a number of changes this season.
Rather than competition-based alignment, teams were separated into three conferences: North, South and QAFL.
Despite playing as separate conferences through the season, the three competitions played a combined finals series.
WOMEN’S
The 2014 SEQ women’s leagues went from one competition with two divisions, to two leagues with differing objectives.
The Queensland Women’s Australian Football League was established as the state’s top women’s league, with seven teams (Coorparoo, Zillmere, Griffith Moorooka, University of Queensland, Coolangatta and Wilston Grange) competing in 2014 and a focus on experienced players and high- level talent.
The Queensland Women’s Amateur Football Association (QWAFA) included five teams (UQ, Caboolture, Western Magpies, Ipswich and Zillmere), with a focus on introducing players into female football in a social environment.
QWAFA games were played with reduced numbers on smaller fields, to help ease the transition for newcomers.
