Greater Focus on Preventative Health
Big Data will improve society’s understanding of the links between sporting participation and health outcomes. Insurers and governments are likely
to increasingly promote sporting participation
as a means of preventing adverse health effects, and sporting participation may be linked to lower insurance premiums and government tax credits. AFL Queensland will assist clubs to actively promote positive health outcomes associated with football participation and enhance facilities that support good health, such as gyms and recovery facilities.
PROMOTING HEALTHY LIFESTYLES – AFL CAPE YORK HOUSE, CAIRNS
AFL Cape York sourced funding
from the Federal and State Governments, along with other partner organisations, to build a
$5.3 million residential facility that provides a ‘home-away-from-home’ for up to 48 young men from remote indigenous communities across Cape York and the Torres Strait Islands. Key to its success is its focus on conferring residential life skills, including teaching residents to cook, clean their rooms and maintain the facility’s grounds, all while attending schools across Cairns, receiving academic tutoring and participating in AFL development programs.
