A FLEXIBLE FACILITY – HARRUP PARK COUNTRY CLUB, MACKAY
Harrup Park Country Club is the epicentre of Australian football in Mackay. The two-oval facility was developed through a partnership between AFL Queensland, AFL Mackay and the Mackay Cricket Association and boasts an integrated hub for AFL administration, talent and game development programs and events. The facility is very flexible and accommodates community football training and matches, junior carnivals and AFL 9s. The facility has enabled the staging of two NEAFL exhibition matches, each attended by over 4,000 spectators which
has substantially lifted the profile of Australian football in the local community.
BUILDING FOR GROWTH – MORETON BAY CENTRAL SPORTS COMPLEX, BURPENGARY
The Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex at Burpengary is an outstanding example of facility planning to grow community football and accommodate future growth
in outer metropolitan Brisbane. Developed through a partnership between AFL Queensland, the Caboolture Lions and Moreton
Bay Regional Council, the facility presently features two MCG-size turf ovals and allows for the future installation of a third oval. Its change rooms and amenities can be configured for junior football through to AFL exhibition matches, and the provision of quality medical rooms and coaches’ boxes have enabled a regional talent program to be located in the region for the first time. The facility provision is firmly focused
on growth in one of Queensland’s fastest-growing areas.
