Changes in Technology
New technologies will continue to present opportunities to improve the efficiency and user-friendliness of community football facilities. Innovations such as electronic scoreboards will reduce volunteer labour demand, while online payments and payWave technologies
will transform club financial management. There will be an increasing demand for football matches and training sessions to be digitally live-streamed or recorded for spectator consumption and player education purposes. An AFL Synthetic Turf program also exists
to support the rollout
of next generation artificial surfaces.
AFL Queensland
will research new technologies and provide technical advice and supplier contacts to ensure
that clubs, Councils and schools are informed about the latest technologies can improve their facilities.
ADOPTING NEW TECHNOLOGIES – REDLAND BOMBERS
20
Redland Bombers have been at the forefront of integrating new technologies into their bayside facility in Brisbane. The club’s senior team competes in the NEAFL competition – a league that requires clubs to provide facilities for live streaming of matches and statistics collection by Champion Data. The Bombers have grasped the opportunity to further enhance their oval by installing a digital scoreboard, which obviates one demand on club volunteers. Lately, the club has installed a next generation, maintenance free PVC picket fence around their oval, which has improved the visual amenity of the facility and enhanced their attractiveness to sponsors.
