QUEENSLANDERS SHINE ON THE BIG STAGE
For the first time, two AFL Women’s Exhibition games were held in
2015, both cu ain raisers to the Melbourne and Western Bulldogs AFL games; the second broadcast on free-to-air television.
In game one, which was played on the MCG, Melbourne jumped out of the blocks the be er, kicking three first qua er goals to the Western Bulldogs one.
Some good defensive work from the Bulldogs midfield and back six held the Demons goalless in the second and third qua ers, but Melbourne regained control in the last qua er to seal the game.
Game two, at Etihad Stadium, was broadcast Australia-wide on the Seven Network.
Similar to game one, Melbourne were the team that sta ed the be er, kicking the first two goals of the game.
The Demons sta ed to skip away
in the second, but a four-goal haul from Queenslandborn Bulldogs player Katie Brennan evened up the contest.
The Western Bulldogs got within four points with just minutes remaining, but the Demons were able to hold on, making it four wins in a row for the red and the blue.
