SEASON SNAPSHOT
The Redland Bombers started 2012 with a new coach and a new football manager.
Despite missing out on finals by just one game in 2011, external expectations of the squad were low after several high profile players left pre-season.
However the Bombers had a fresh approach to the season, priding themselves on their fitness and a new defensive approach to their football. Many of the local players stepped up to a new level, while the seasoned campaigners trained themselves harder than ever.
Between Rounds 10 and 18 the Bombers went undefeated with seven straight victories to sew up a spot in the top five and finish two games clear of the fifth placed GC SUNS.
In front of over 1,500 people at Victoria Point, the Bombers posted their first ever finals win with a 99-point victory over the GC SUNS that saw them progress to the semi-final against the Southport Sharks.
Despite their best efforts, the Bombers lost in agonising fashion, a kick after the siren seeing them go down by just two-points.
Despite the heartbreaking finals loss, the year as a whole was a great success for Redlands with wingman Tom Salter claiming the Grogan medal, centre half forward Scott Clouston winning the Syd Guildford award, four Bombers making the NEAFL Team of the Year and coach Greg Seton-Lonsdale named Coach of the Year.
The Bombers will look to retain their list for 2013 and work harder than ever to go closer to their goal of a state league premiership.
