SEASON SNAPSHOT
After a mid-season coaching change in 2011, the Labrador Tigers settled down to a pre-season with Brad Moore and Tim Notting in charge of the football program for 2012. To assist in the squad’s athletic preparation the club also enlisted the services of Strength and Conditioning Coach Reece Norris.
The effort put into the pre season planning and execution paid off with the club winning seven of their first eight games and holding down a solid position on the top of the NEAFL Northern Conference ladder.
The club featured strongly in the representative fixtures with Ryan Davey and Todd Grayson playing in the state team and Tom Fields, Adam Clarke, Sam Walker and Jake Goldsmith included in the Under 21 team.
Jermaine Wardle was the club’s only representative in the Queensland Under 18 team.
The second half of the season proved to be more difficult for the club, winning only two of our remaining games. We finished equal with the Gold Coast SUNS on 36 points but missed out on a finals berth by percentage.
Ryan Davey capped off a great year by winning the Zane Taylor Medal for best on ground for the state game and the J A Grogan Medal for the NEAFL best and fairest, as well as making the NEAFL Team of the Year.
Off the field the club focused on its community programs, running open forums on subjects such as Nutrition in Junior Sport and fundraising events to benefit community members such as raising money for a motorized scooter for local resident Gary Ambrosio.
A focus on game day presentation and activities resulted in a return of family groups to Cooke Murphy Oval, with our best crowd of the season reaching over 1,000 spectators.
With our strategic planning in place there is an excitement around Tigerland about what we can achieve over the next few seasons, both on and off the field.
